an has always been fascinated by Lusitano horses. Their nobility,
courage, finesse and beauty makes them unique. They are exemplary
in the most beautiful high school airs. They have been ridden
by the greatest trainers and have inspired in them the most
beautiful choreographies. They are living dreams that we never
tire of admiring. The admiration and respect they inspire
makes the crowd hold its breath when they come into the arena.
So much beauty and nobility can only be matched by a dignified
approach to riding. Every day we search for the ideal: harmony
with our horses. It is the horses who are our teachers, constantly
pushing back our own limits. Above all, it is our love for
them that makes us seek lightness, balance and grace in our
riding. To give them even more fluid and beautiful paces.
We seek a thoughtful approach to relaxation rather than the
movement itself.
The Lusitano horse has the same origins as the Spanish horse,
but the Portuguese selection was quite different since their
horses were basically for bullfighting and therefore needed
to combine courage, endurance, functionality and strength
with grace and elegance. As an academic horse, the ancestor
of the Lusitano, the Spanish Geneta horse was ridden by the
greatest riding masters of past centuries and its finesse
inspired equestrian art at the Court of Versailles.
The Lusitano is a demanding and intelligent horse that is
always full of surprises, charming and much closer to man
than other breeds. This horse needs a disciplined and meticulous
approach but also diplomacy and gentleness. It is a respectful,
exclusive and proud horse that is also playful and loves to
have fun!
Lusitano Prestige’s horses come from the very best Portuguese
bloodlines. Many of our horses are related because we remain
loyal to those bloodlines that have produced so well in the
past. Horses from Manuel Jorge’s stud often have ancestors
that he has previously schooled himself. We are looking for
horses that have all of the qualities of the baroque horse
and that always have: an excellent back, a lot of strength
(essential for high school), short loins, perfect limb conformation,
a generally well-balanced look, but also and above all a good
mental attitude and a correct initial education as soon as
the horse is backed.

e like horses that are round and well muscled, the Lusitano
horse is a stocky horse and the best thing to make him happy
is to give him the right diet and make sure he always has
something to eat. We import our horse feed from Portugal,
the same feed that Manuel Jorge gives his horses to eat. A
mixture of various ingredients with mostly whole oats that
allows the horse to chew and which keeps all of the cereal’s
proteins. Vitamins and minerals, alfalfa, carob, known for
its properties on the mind, whole corn and dried beans. This
mixture, which seems quite exotic, has proven its quality
through the health of our horses, the absence of colic, but
also in their athletic bodies. Each horse is also given as
much straw as it wants, but no hay, which they do not have
in Portugal. In addition, a small amount of sunflower oil,
and carrots every day of the year, a bran mash twice a week
and a salt lick whenever the weather changes.
ur horses are gems, of rare beauty of which we never tire.
They are exclusive in their conformation but also in their
education and schooling. But they are also unique individuals:
one is an artist, another is a gentle giant; each one has
their own personality but all of have prestige....
